I just got a new 800 paint job from macco, it wasnt the best one they had and it wasnt the worst one. my car is going to be garage kept. I want to know what products and how often do i need to use the products inorder to best maintain the paint job? what should i expect, did i waist my money and the paint job will get worst no matter what or will it last. You can wash your car as often as you want to, preferably by hand. You can use any good quality wax on it after 90 days, not 30 like everyone else has said. If you use a good quality wax you will only need to wax it once a month at the very most. Wax it, keep it inside and out of direct sunlight any time you can. Well, the fact is the biggest part of a paint job is preparation. For $800 there was little prep work done. Keep the car clean and use a real carnuba wax (after 30 days) and it will last a few years. The more sun time it gets, the faster the paint will fade or chalk. It will last, as long as you take care of your vehicle. I know, there are clear coats you can have put onto your car, its like a wax coating that protects and seals the paint from damage and such, you can look into that if you wish :) Also, turtle wax is a must (although there are other brands, armoral is a good one) but simply wash your car and then place the protectant onto it. Basically, its like a temporary car wax made with carnuba wax (which helps keep the paint shiney) that will help the paint last longer, and prevent damage from it chipping away. You can also park in shade or under something, as this will prevent sun bleached areas of paint, but if you do use any products, just be sure they are a trusted brand and they will keep the paint job good as new. Hope this helps :) actually its good you stepped up to the 800 dollar job, you get a better quality paint than the cheap one. The Quality of paint is the key, it will hold up for several years, if its going in the garage it may last a lot longer. If you are happy with how it looks now, good. for the next 30 days minimum, do nothing. no washing, dont hose it off, let the paint cure depending on what the color is, it may get a bit lighter or darker. As far as any care goes, call maaco and ask them what is the best thing to do, since they just painted it, they may have suggestions. I liked to use turtle wax past wax, it will last much longer than the liquid wax does in the bottle. and its relatively inexpensive, and comparable to all the others out there which are far to expensive for what the do. How to Install a Gas Tank in a 1964 ChevelleThe 1964 Chevelle gas tank has a filler neck that extends through the rear of the luggage compartment to the license plate behind which is the gas cap. The gas tank must have a 90-ohm fuel level-sending unit. The 90-ohm sender is the only one compatible with the fuel level gauge. It is recommended that the rubber hose attached to the filler neck behind the license plate be changed as well if it happens to be original. Difficulty:Moderately Challenging Instructions Things You'll Need Floor jack Jack stands Ratchet Set of sockets Common screwdriver Step by Step : 1 Disconnect the negative (black) battery terminal. Siphon as much fuel out of the tank as possible. 2 Raise the rear of the car with the floor jack placed under the differential. Place the jack stands under the frame in front of the rear tires so they don't interfere with the fuel tank removal. Lower the car onto the stands and remove the floor jack. 3 Open the trunk. The rubber hose is behind the license plate and passes through the floor to the tank. Loosen its hose clamp with the screwdriver. 4 Place the floor jack under the center of the tank between the support straps. Raise the jack enough to give support to the tank. Remove the two bolts securing the fuel tank support straps with a socket located between the tank and the bumper. Pull the straps down and push them toward the front of the tank so they don't interfere with the removal of the tank. 5 Loosen the clamp on the rubber section of fuel hose attached to the fuel delivery line from the tank. Pull the fuel line hose off the tank. 6 Lower the fuel tank sufficiently to gain access to the top of the tank. Remove the ground wire on the side of the fuel sending unit and the power wire in the center of the unit, using a socket for the power wire. Continue to lower the fuel tank while simultaneously pulling the tank toward the front of the car just enough to dislodge the fuel filler pipe. Pull the fuel tank from under the car. 7 Place the new fuel tank on the floor jack and push it under the car and into position directly under its intended mounting position. Raise the tank and work the filler neck into the filler hose behind the license plate. 8 Raise the tank enough to connect the ground and power wires to the sending unit. Tighten the power wire terminal in the center of the sender, using a socket. The ground wire is simply pushed on. 9 Continue to raise the tank the remainder of the way and hold it securely in position with the floor jack. Bend the support straps around the bottom of the tank, insert the bolt in each one, thread them into their brackets and tighten them, using a socket. Remove the floor jack. Step by Step : 10 Install the fuel line to the fuel tank port and tighten the clamp with a screwdriver. Move the filler neck hose down over the fuel tank metal filler pipe and tighten the clamp.
